Taqueria San Jose in San Rafael

Without a doubt my favorite Mexican restaurant in Marin. It's kinda small, fairly out-of-the-way (being pretty much under the freeway), and pretty grungy, but the food is excellent and the prices are low. I've found that the quality is fairly inconsistent, but it tends to fluctuate between really good and amazing.

They've been around since the 1980's and haven't changed restaraunt design or recipe. Same flavor for over 30 years🤜🏾🤛🏾

Great food at a great price. You may have to wait but the line moves fast. I love this place

I've come here for years and always get the prawn super burrito to fill the craving I had for it from the last time I came. Now that is consistency. The best part are the grilled vegies, which really makes the burrito.

Was introduced to this place by a coworker. Go early, because it fills up fast. That is one hell of burrito there, and it only had rice, meat and cheese. I can't imagine finishing one that had beans in it.Also, if you're getting water, put ice in your cup. It comes out warm.

Good pastor tacos (though I'll skip the carne asada tacos). The super burrito was large indeed and tasty. So glad to have this place nearby!!

Yelp and Google definitely know I like tacos. Real tacos. Real food. This gem of a find is top of a very solid list. Ordered way too much food and enjoyed it thoroughly. The crew running the show was awesome, and even let us finish our meal after they closed. The fajitas were on point too. 🤟💃

The quintessential Mexican restaurant in San Rafael. They have a nice salsa and chips bar. The food is authentic Mexican. It's all good.

Delicious. An amazing place to grab some delicious food from a friendly, knowledgeable wait staff. Taqueria San Jose has an awesome, authentic feeling atmosphere and eating here is an overall treat. If you're heading back into San Francisco from the San Jose Convention Center and want some delicious food or drinks, this is the place to go.

If you're looking for great authentic Mexican food, this is a great place to go. The place is a bit hidden and out of the way but the prices are excellent and the portions are huge. It's a must stop.

Came here on a Sunday for some Mexican food. They had menudo, which I've never had before. Ordered it. Most delicious tendon I've ever had...and this is coming from a guy who loves tendon in his pho. Delicious. Will come back for more.

This is one of my favorite places in San Rafael, it's been a while since i been here give or take a couple of years but i can say this.....they still have that awesome delicious taste. I'm glad i stopped by today. Thank you.

Located under the freeway in a dank section of San Rafael is a little place that serves authentic Mexican food at reasonable prices. The burritos are large and filling as is the rest of the dishes filling your stomach without emptying out your wallet.

Everything was just ok. Didn't taste like true Mexican. Was fast food like. If 2.5 stars was an option, that would be this place's name. Great customer service

Looked a bit rundown on the outside but the food was excellent and came in large portions . The menu was simple but with plenty of choices (very easy to understand). Prices were very reasonable. They even flaghed us down on our way out when my cousin forgot her purse under the table.

Their tacos and quesadillas are absolutely out of this world. If you don't like spicy food or can't handle spice ask for the tacos without the spicy salsa. The meat is of such flavor,not.much compares. They really care about the core ingredients that go in.Outside of the nachos, they use what seems to be canned que bueno nacho cheese for those. Don't get the nachos if you want authentec stuff. Order the pasole, menudo or traditional plates.

Best place for tacos in San Rafael and probably Marin. Service is fast and friendly. Tacos are very filling and horchata is so good. It's the place to go to for Mexican food for my father and myself.

Best Mexican Taquria in San Rafael. Highly suggest the burritos. Beans and rice very well prepared. The salsa is exellent and the employees are amazing as well. Very friendly and youll feel like a regular in no time!

Under the freeway in downtown San Rafael, this place has wonderful taqueria food. Cheap, fast, positive, convenient. Their filled quesadillas are humongous . Parking tip: use the dry cleaning lot next door after 6 pm or the commuter lot (be creative) because other options are limited.

Such delicious Mexican food, workers doesn't treat you as a costumer but more as a friend "compadre." Sometimes the food can be greasy and you have to ask for chips and sauce now, but I love this place overall!

HORRIBLE DIRTY restaurant. My order is always wrong and never correct. I won't go there it's WAY WAY better Mexican restaurants in San Rafael to spend my money for food made wrong and no atmosphere. You'll regret going there only go if you want bad food and and even worst service.

Different chef/cook? I considered this to be one Marin's best burritos. I ordered a Carnitas Super Burrito and I was shocked and dismayed to not only how disappointed it tasted but it was swimming in sour cream; I picked over the 2d half. I was so excited to see San Jose Tacqueria open! I guess I'll try Picante next.

Delicious food with quick friendly service in a low key comfortable setting

Man alive this tacoria has the best Mexican food ever! We stopped here on our way back to Oregon and was pleasantly surprised by the menu and the authentic food. They have a full menu if tasty items & their tacos are spot on. I had a asada taco & a carnitas chimichanga. My wife had a couple tacos and a chili relleno plate. I wish I had ordered more tacos because they came in pretty much any meat you could think of. The staff was friendly, the place was full of locals. Don't let the outside fool you this place knows what they're doing!
